Pennyweight is a small, unique, traditional vineyard and winery set amidst the stringy barks, owned and operated by the 4th and 5th generation Morris family winemakers. Pennyweight is comprised of two certified organic, dry land properties covering two winegrowing regions, producing an extensive range of wines, 100% estate grown, made, bottled and sold.

The Beechworth Wine Centre stocks the best selection of premium local and imported wines in Beechworth. These include the legendary Giaconda, Sorrenberg, Savaterre, Battely and Amulet etc. as well as fine wines from the surrounding regions and exclusive for Victoria, (Len) Evans Family wines from the Hunter Valley. Other wines and champagnes from France, Italy, etc. also available. Tastings are held daily.We are situated in the former Bank of NSW (circa 1856), an impressive Italianate building of the Gold Era complete with a massive stone walled garden (Clos de Banque). The building is an ideal backdrop for our European antiques, decorative arts and truly impressive ornamental cast iron, marble and antique garden statuary and fountains, which are all very reasonably priced.
Oliver von Wilpert, the company's director, sources all antiques personally from Europe, with emphasis on quality, design and affordability. His wholesale warehouse in Melbourne is well known for bargains amongst the antiques trade. First planted in 1979, Smiths Vineyard is the oldest established vineyard in Beechworth. Our site is at 550 metres altitude and on a hillside over looking the Ovens Valley and Mt Buffalo.Premium boutique wines- Chardonnay, Cabernet Merlot, Shiraz and a barrel fermented Rose make up our range. Great wine is made in the vineyard and our philosophy of minimal impact viticulture and traditional winemaking methods is foremost at Smiths Vineyard.
