Ned Kelly Weekend - 5-7 August 2011
The Ned Kelly Festival for 2010 is over.
The Festival was a great success. The exhibition of the four Kelly gang suits of armour drew large crowds all weekend and the town's resident Kelly-story actors were put to the test on Saturday as they performed the annual re-enactment of the outlaw's committal hearing in front of some of Australia’s best-known actors.
The seventh annual Ned Kelly Weekend was highlighted by the reuniting of the original cast of the hit TV mini-series, The Last Outlaw, released 30 years ago this year. Among those who had made the trek to Beechworth, some for the first time since the series was filmed, were Sigrid Thornton, John Jarratt (who played Ned), Steve Bisley, Gerard Kennedy and Lewis Fitzgerald.
Among other highlights ere the Hypothetical at which many fine speakers were put to the test by moderator the ABC's kathy Bedford.
All thoughts are now turning to 5 to 7 August 2011. A new committee is developing plans for the next Festival and a program will be announced as soon as it is devised.
