Harvest Celebration Beechworth - 17th May 2014
Review of 18th May 2013 Event
A chilly but often sunny day greeted over 1500 patrons at this year’s Harvest Celebration in Beechworth. They were welcomed into the giant marquee by 40 plus food, wine and brewery outlets from across the High Country region, resulting in what was a true harvest style celebration featuring live music, culinary theatre performances, wine and food tasting ... and some very cosy heaters.
Patrons wandered in, around and outside the marquee all day long, Plumm tasting glasses in hand, to sample the produce of the season’s harvest whilst the littlies engaged in old school games of apple bobbing, egg and spoon races, three legged races and dress the scarecrow competitions. There was also an animal farm for all ages to get down and dirty with, along with the Beechworth Honey colouring competition and Beechworth Bakery shortbread decorating activities.
The Brown Brothers Wine Room was packed to the rafters with wine aficionados extending their knowledge in intimate education sessions with local wine makers from across the region. Our sincere thanks go to Katherine Brown from Brown Brothers for facilitating the day, along with the winemakers who, although busy with their own vineyards, represented their regions; Mark Scalzo and Peter Graham (Beechworth Vignerons), Ross Brown (Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard), Tim Walpole (Alpine Valley Vignerons), Anton Therkeldsen (Winemakers of Rutherglen), Michael Reid and Tim Long (Glenrowan Winemakers).
Sincere thanks go to the bright and bubbly Jodie Goldsworthy who emceed and demonstrated the use of honey at the highly engaging Beechworth Honey Culinary Theatre. This stage showcased the talents possessed by the innovative Adam Pizzini (Rinaldo’s Casa Cucina), mother and son duo Patrizia and Anthony Simone (Simone’s of Bright), Best Regional Restaurant owner and chef (as voted by The Age) Michael Ryan (Provenance) and finishing in a cloud of flour, which somehow rained balls of freshly prepared dough from Bray Webster, was the Beechworth Bakery.
Feedback from patrons was great and everyone had a really enjoyable day. We would like to warmly congratulate all parties for joining us on the day.
Great thanks and appreciation goes to our major sponsor, the community minded Beechworth Bakery, for its fantastic support of this event.
We would also like to thank the team from Beechworth Honey, who were certainly busy little bumble bees, pardon the pun, as their support was invaluable and unrelenting not just on the day but all year round.
Thanks go to the Bridge Road Brewery and WWW.ART for their role in supporting the delivery of this important, local event, along with the team from 'Prisoners on the Run'.
Nolan Media and Events and the Beechworth Chamber of Commerce wish to thank the long list of wonderful volunteers who donated their time along with the staff at the Indigo Shire for its support of the Harvest Celebration in Beechworth.
